What Is Operations Management

Operations is responsible for supplying the product or service of the organization. Operations Managers make decisions regarding the operations function and its connection with other functions. The operations managers plan and control the production system and its interfaces within the organization and with the external environment.

Three points in this definition deserve emphasis:

1) Decisions: Focus on decision making-central theme in operation- four major responsibilities- process, capacity, quality and inventory.
2) Functions: operations functions- manufacturing or service providing.

3) Systems: plan and control the production system and its interfaces.

Management
Management is the art of getting things done through people. The application of planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling functions in the most efficient and effective manner possible to accomplish objectives.

Operations Management: Operations management is the management of that part of an organization that is responsible for producing goods and/or provide services e.g. Book, Video, Email, Phone, Medical treatment.
